When you walk into your home, you’re going to be confronted with a number of different things. You will see all kinds of security cameras, different types of security systems, different lighting, and different types of doors and windows. You’ll also see your home from every angle.
The problem is most people don’t think about the various things that are going to surround them while they’re at home. All the security cameras, all the different types of security systems, all the different security systems, all the different kinds of lights, all the different doors, all the different windows, all the different floors, and all the different rooms.
What this means is that your home should be as secure as possible, but not so secure that you would feel uncomfortable if someone came in and wanted to do you harm. Of course I’m not saying to put a gun in your mouth or that you should always use a key-less entry system. I am saying that you should always be ready to respond in case someone comes in.
Sounds like a good idea to me, especially when you consider that the more people that come in the more likely it is that someone will be in need of you.
This is probably the most basic and basic of “security” tips. But it can be as basic as a gun, a smart lock, or even a combination lock. All of these can be used to deter any sort of intruders.
OSCE, the Association for Security and Counter-Intrusion, has been around since the 1980s, and they’ve seen a lot of success in educating the public about the needs of the armed security world. Their website says their mission is to provide “information, training and technical assistance to all government, commercial, and non-profit organizations that provide security services in the United States and abroad.
If you think that OSCE is just a bunch of amateurs, you’re probably right. But the organization has actually done quite a lot to advance the understanding of the security services industry that most people would consider a simple group of amateurs. For instance, they created the first “OSCE Open Course” for the Department of Homeland Security, which is a 5-hour certification course that teaches security professionals how to protect U.S. government agencies online.
This is interesting because I’ve never heard of this group of amateurs before. Maybe its because I’m a former American diplomat, or I’m a European, or I just don’t know what anyone is talking about.
If you do find yourself in the security industry, the best advice I can give you is to take classes at a local community college. There are a lot of people who have never even heard of OSCE, or who think they are “too old” to take one. Community colleges are the only real place to meet people with similar interests.
What’s interesting about OSCE is that its members are all local police, fire, and military officers. It’s a group of people who are willing to give their time to help police solve crimes and keep the peace. These security professionals are also used to being on the streets, so they’ll be very familiar with the things that keep them on the streets.
