intranets are a great solution for companies but not so much for individuals. I’ve been a part of several and all of them really sucked. I had a great experience with a company called Intellit. It was small, but very well organized and did what it needed to do.

The problem is that the intranet is a product that you can’t get away from once you’ve signed up for it. After all, you need to be logged in to get a whole lot of other stuff that you can use. So people who want to use their intranets have to sign up for them, and it’s almost like they’re signing up for a subscription service.

With the intranet, you can sign up for a company’s internal intranet, which is basically a web site you can access and use to access company’s intranets – like for example, the intranets you use to communicate on company’s email server.
In my opinion, most intranets are used as a way for companies to organize their internal information.
