this is a really good question. There are certainly many self-awareness tools out there that do a great job of teaching us to be more aware and self-aware of what we do and how we feel. However, we can’t always use these tools to help us with self-awareness because our brains get overwhelmed with information. We need to get our brains back in balance and work on our own personal awareness.
A great way to get yourself fully in context is to try and do more than just look at the screen of your phone and see the messages you’re reading. Many of these people are likely just watching your voice saying, “Hey, I want to talk to you.” It’s a lot better than just looking at your face. Once you’ve done that, you can then move on to the next message.
I see the same trend in many tech articles. That is, the people are always talking about how great it is to use voice commands on the phone and what a great time they are having using it. I agree that it is a good way to get into context with other people, and I imagine its a great way to work on your own personal awareness. But, it’s a lot easier to just watch the screen of your phone than to do things on your own.
The truth is, I am not convinced that voice-based interaction is not just a gimmick. We get on the phone with many people and are instantly able to start conversations with them. This is something that may feel like an intrusion to someone else, but it is far more efficient than typing our message on a screen.
Also, the fact is that you can communicate with people while you’re still sitting in front of your computer. Whether you’re just talking to your friend on Facebook or you’re texting each other, you are able to access all of your contacts in real time. In fact, there is a lot that can currently (in the near future) be done through a voice-based interface.
I know this is a pretty subjective thing, but I love the fact that I can’t get a quick review on the main Facebook page and I feel like I’m writing this as an article. I love reading your story, and especially the message that you posted. You have a pretty good sense of humor, and I know it is on this page too.
I think there is some potential for a voice-based interface. Like, you can text each other your contact information, and as long as your phone is in your pocket your contacts will be connected. The good thing is that your phone will be connected to the internet, and you can access everything through your app. However, you can only access contacts that you have unlocked through your phone. This could be a bit of a problem if your phone is used for texting.
It sounds like your phone does not have a phonebook, which would be a very good reason to not use it for texting. However, if it does not have a phonebook, you could still use it for texting without affecting your contacts or the internet. We would still have to figure out how to use the app to access your contacts and vice versa.
I would be very interested in hearing whether or not you think this is a good idea.
